Astronomer Dr. Ellie Arroway has long been interested in contact to faraway lands, a love fostered in her childhood by her father, Ted Arroway, who passed away when she was nine years old leaving her then orphaned. Her current work in monitoring for extraterrestrial life is based on that love and is in part an homage to her father.
Ever since funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) was pulled on her work, which is referred to some, including her NSF superior David Drumlin, as more science fiction than science, Ellie, with a few of her rogue scientist colleagues, have looked for funding from where ever they could get it to continue their work.
When Ellie and her colleagues hear chatter originating from the vicinity of the star Vega, Ellie feels vindicated. But that vindication is short lived when others, including politicians, the military, religious leaders and other scientists such as Drumlin.

Nasib orang memang tidak ada yang pernah tahu. Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) misalnya, ia mungkin tak pernah berharap menjadi orang terkenal. Bahkan untuk bisa hidup layak saja mungkin sudah di luar impiannya. Tapi itu semua berubah ketika ia bertemu Leigh Anne Touhy (Sandra Bullock) dan Sean Touhy (Tim McGraw) yang memberinya harapan baru.
Michael Oher adalah seorang anak kulit hitam yang tumbuh di keluarga broken home. Tanpa tempat berlindung dan tanpa pendidikan yang memadai, nasib Oher memang tak pernah jelas. Keluarga Touhy yang merasa prihatin lantas mengadopsi Oher menjadi anak mereka. Mereka tak peduli meski Oher bukan anak kulit putih seperti keluarga mereka.
Dengan dukungan dari keluarga barunya ini, semangat Oher pun tumbuh. Tanpa harus meninggalkan sekolahnya, Oher memilih football sebagai jalan hidupnya. Seiring berjalannya waktu, Oher pun tumbuh menjadi atlet football yang berbakat. Tak ada yang mengira bahwa Oher semula hanyalah anak tunawisma yang tak punya harapan hidup. Tapi dengan dukungan dan cinta dari orang-orang terdekatnya, tak ada impian yang tak akan terwujud.

Film ini berkisah seputar keruntuhan rezim Nazi Jerman di tahun 1945. Terutama hari-hari terakhir kehidupan sang kaisar Adolf Hitler berserta beberapa orang-orang yang berada dalam bunker Nazi ketika istana sang Fuhrer telah dibombardir tentara merah Russia.
Film dimulai dengan adegan bagaimana perekrutan beberapa wanita cantik asal Jerman yang akan bertugas sebagai sekertaris pribadi Hitler (Bruno Ganz), Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) akhirnya terpilih sebagai sekertaris pemimpin tertinggi Nazi tersebut. Pada tanggal 20 April 1945 Tentara Merah Russia sudah semakin mendekati bunker Hitler. Dentuman altileri semakin terdengar jelas. Jerman hampir kalah.
Menghadapi kekalahan, perasaan Hilter gundah. Terus melakukan perlawanan atau melarikan diri. Setia atau memilih untuk melindungi diri sendiri. Bagaimana dengan orang-orang dekatnya menghadapi kenyataan hampir mengalami kekalahan itu? Eva Braun (Juliane Kohler) kerap mengadakan pesta. Sementara Magda Goebbels membunuh anak-anaknya. Film ini menggambarkan bagaimana kehidupan Hitler dan Eva, saat-saat terakhir mereka di tempat persembunyian.
Film ini berupaya menggambarkan sosok Hitler juga manusia saat menghadapi situasi sulit: sebuah kekalahan.
